Our Atlanta Team has begun community Walkthroughs on the west side. This will be a great opportunity for you, your service organization, or other students within your network to build relationships and directly impact our neighborhoods in a dynamic way. Walkthroughs will be this (and every) Saturday @ 10:30 a.m. -2 p.m.
Boy With a Ball (BWAB) is an international nonprofit focused on youth, family, and community development. We are a collection of individuals who are passionate about compassion and who believe that relationship can change lives by helping people develop.
We exist to better cities by reaching young people and equipping them to be leaders capable of turning and transforming their communities.
What is a "Walkthrough?"
We refer to the community outreach on the west side as a "Walkthrough". Our team takes volunteers into an economically disadvantaged neighborhood with the purpose of building friendships with the members of the community. We then discover what challenges the youth are facing and help to develop solutions for equipping them to reach their dreams.
-We meet each Saturday morning at City of Refuge (who we partner with) in Atlanta to talk through the plans for the day and to brief anyone who is new.
-We then split into groups of 4-5 people, including two of our own team members. Each group takes an assigned route of a few blocks.
-After 1.5 - 2 hours of being in the community, we meet back at City of Refuge to debrief about who we met and what we learned.
-The entire process will be from 11am - 2pm. A group of us will go to lunch afterwards, and anyone is welcome.
